According to one of the many legends, Odysseus was shipwrecked on the island of Mljet by a severe storm. In order to save his life, one of the most famous characters from Greek mythology had to swim to the nearest piece of land. As he did so, a hole in the ground opened up in front of him, and he was able to swim through it. It turned out to be the entrance to a cave, which provided him with protection from the storm.
The cave is a twenty to thirty meters wide with collapsed vault and the bottom is covered with seawater. The cave can be entered by the sea, swimming, or by a smaller boat. Calypso, the nymph who held Odysseus captive for seven long years, made her home on this island, which is characterized by gorgeous coves, a warm sea, and the seductive aroma of pine trees.
On this excursion beside the famous Odysseus's cave, we will also visit the beach Lemuni, where St. Paul the Apostle was also shipwrecked and the famous Blue Cave on the island of Kolocep.
